Amazing last second dunk by Atlanta Hawk Josh Smith

Atlanta Hawk Power Forward Josh Smith celebrates his winning dunk versus the Orlando Magic.

As the NBA season continues to wind down, most teams are competing for home court advantage during the playoffs – thus making every game count.

Last night game played between the Atlanta Hawks and Orlando Magics shows why the NBA is great this time of the year.  It was a game that came down to the final second… Literally.

Atlanta Hawks Power Forward Josh Smith ended the game in dramatic fashion as his last second dunk lifted them to victory over the Orlando Magic 86-84.

Definitely the coolest buzzer beater I’ve seen during this year.  Simply Amazing.

HBO’s Hard Knocks Will Feature The New York Jets This Season

Jets + Hard Knocks? Must see TV!

It has been leaked that the New York Jets will star in the sixth season of HBO’s hit series Hard Knocks.  Hard Knocks is a reality series that picks one team and follows it during training camp, giving viewers a behind the scenes look into how a team operates during this time.

The Jets will definitely be entertaining with a cast led by head football coach Rex Ryan who has become a media favorite with his offbeat press conference and unabashed bravado, pretty boy QB Marc Sanchez aka The Sanchize and many other Jet players who aren’t afraid of the spotlight.  Right Tackle Damien Woody tweeted today “Time to let people into our madness.”

I for one am definitely excited about this news.  I’m looking forward seeing to the J-E-T-S, JETS, JETS, JETS every Wednesday night on HBO’s Hard Knocks.

Upset Central… The 2010 NCAA Men’s Opening Round Day 1

Well, there goes our picks!

Yesterday’s 2010 Men’s NCAA Basketball tournament opening round has not disappointed.  It has been chock full of dramatic moments – including timely blocks and steals and most importantly last second buzzer beaters.

Legends are being made with every game that’s being played.  It’s pretty awesome!

The only bittersweet thing about the tournament thus far have been the upsets.  We all love underdogs – and we root hard for them to win, but damn… why at the expense of our picks!? I kid! I kid!

Let’s just say #3 Georgetown losing to #14 Ohio was not predicted over here at the Sports Bra Reports.

Let’s take a look at some of the other awesome games that were played yesterday.

West Region:

  • #7 BYU: 99 vs. #10 Florida:92
  • #13 Murray State: 66 vs. #4 Vanderbilt:65 – In a huge upset (which we picked! ), Murray State defeats Vandy on a last second buzzer beater.
  • #15 North Texas: 62 vs. #2 Kansas State: 82 – Kansas State’s guards proved to be a little too much for North Texas as the rout them with a 20-point victory.
  • #12 UTEP: 59 vs. #5 Butler: 77

South Region:

  • #11 Old Dominion: 51 vs. #5 Notre Dame: 50First upset of the tournament.
  • #15 Robert Morris: 70 vs. #2 Villanova: 73 (OT) – ‘Nova dodges a bullet by outlasting a scrappy Robert Morris team in OT.
  • #14 Sam Houston St: 59 vs. #3 Baylor: 68
  • #10 Saint Mary’s: 80 vs. #7 Richmond: 71 – St. Mary’s first tourney victory in over 4 decades.  Last tourney win was in 1959, I think they were due.

MIDWEST REGION:

  • #9 Northern Iowa: 69 vs. #8 UNLV: 66 – Ali Farokhmanesh’s 3-pointer from way down under with seconds left pushes Northern Iowa to victory over the running rebels.
  • #14 Ohio: 97 vs. #3 Georgetown: 83 – It what definitely busted a lot of brackets (including ours!), #14 Ohio stuns #3 Georgetown and the nation as the easily cruise to victory.
  • #14 Ohio's Devaun Washington slams it home on #3 G'town Hoyas.

#16 Lehigh: 74 vs. #1 Kansas: 90 – As I was watching this game, I definitely thought that Lehigh had a chance to be the first #16 seed to ever advance past the first round.  But Kansas’ depth and talent prevailed as the outlasted Lehigh for the victory.

  • #11 San Diego State U: 59 vs. #6 Tennessee: 62 – In an extremely close game, the Vols prevailed as they were able to hit more shots towards latter part of game.

EAST REGION:

  • #16 E. Tenn State: 71 vs. #1 Kentucky – No upset here! Wall & Cousins lead the Wildcats to an easy victory over E. Tenn State.
  • #11 Washington: 70 vs. #6 Marquette: 68 – Another bracket buster, #11 Washington beats #6 Marquette on a last second buzzer beating leaner jump-shot by guard Quincy Pondexter.
  • #9 Wake Forest: 81 vs. #8 Texas: 80 (OT) – Ishmael Smith’s buzzer beating jumper helps #9 Demon Deacons defeat #8 Texas in overtime.
  • #14 Montana: 57 vs. #3 New Mexico: 62 – New Mexico overcomes an early lead by Montana and battles through for the victory.

Well ladies and gents so far, so good.  It has been a great tournament thus far and here’s hoping that today’s 16 opening round games continue to be as thrilling but not detrimental to our tournament picks.

First Upset of 2010 Men’s NCAA Tournament… #11 Old Dominion Stuns #6 Notre Dame

How far will ODU go in the 2010 Tournament after upsetting #6 ranked Notre Dame 51-50

Ladies and gents, we have the first official bracket buster aka underdog upset of the 2010 Men’s NCAA tournament.  In today’s first round opener in the South Regional 11-ranked Old Dominion upset 6-ranked Notre Dame 51-50.

It’s the first time in over 14 years that ODU has advanced past the first round.  In what was a very close game with several lead changes, ODU was able to hold off the Irish even though they had two looks at the basket in the trailing seconds of the game when they were down by one point.

Frank Hassel led ODU with 15 points, 9 rebounds and 2 assists.  How far will ODU go? We’ll just have to see as they await the winner of the #3 Baylor vs. #14- Sam Houston.

Well, there goes our bracket.  Hahahaha, just kidding… One of the greatest thing about the NCAA tournament is seeing teams like ODU upset the big dogs.  Here’s hoping we have some more upsets and great games in the tournament, even if it’s at the expense of our bracket.

2010 March Madness… It’s Awesome Baby!!! Our picks!

March Madness... It's awesome Baby!

March Madness... It's awesome Baby!

2010 March Madness… It’s awesome baby!

March Madness has finally arrived – 64 of the “best” division I Men & Women’s teams compete for the chance to call themselves 2010 NCAA Basketball Champs.

We love March Madness here in the States; it represents all that is great about college basketball.  We have these young adults playing their hearts out, trying to out duel themselves with every dribble, pass, shot & dunk.

It makes for awesome TV.  Plus, we get to compete in all different types of pools and see if we can be the one to pick all the outcomes correctly.  Another bonus is we get to gather around with friends and fans and root on teams for two weeks while enjoying a nice frosty brew or our favorite beverage!

Some interesting facts compiled by Pregame.com president RJ Bell:

  • The NCAA estimates that nearly 31 million Americans participate in their office pools.
  • What are the odds of picking a perfect bracket?  9,223,372,036,854,775,808 to 1.  What does that number mean? It means you have nine quintillion to one chances of picking all 32 outcomes correctly… Umm, good luck!!!
  • #16 seeds are 0 for 88 vs. # 1 seeds.  So if you feel the urge to pick the ultimate upset, please don’t.  Odds are definitely not in your favor and that will totally kill your chances of winning your pool.
  • Superstars make a difference in the NCAA tournament.  If a team has at least one all American, chances are they he/she can lead their team to the promised land.  Out of the last 28 champions, 27 had at least one All-American.

So here at the Sports Bra Reports, in the 2010 NCAA Men’s tournament we have #1 Syracuse from the West Region winning it all.  Take a peek at our selections.

Our picks!

So what do you think ladies and gents, do we have a shot of beating the one in quintillion odds? Who do you have winning it all?

Whether you win your office pool or not, enjoy the ride that is March Madness – great basketball teams competing for a chance at NCAA basketball immortality!

Check back tomorrow for our NCAA Women’s picks!

Cal State Guard Gerard Anderson’s Dunk

Cal State- Fullerton Guard Gerard Anderson has accomplished one of the coolest dunks I’ve seen thus far in 2010 Conference tournament play.

On Wednesday night vs. Cal State Northridge in the Big West Tournament – he literally does his best half-man, half-amazing aka Vince Carter impersonation by jumping over guard Vinnie McGhee of Cal State Northridge.

Sure Vinnie isn’t 7’2″ like Frederick Weiss – who Cater completely posterized, he is actually 6 feet tall – but when we see an amazing dunk, we must give credit.

Without further ado… Please see below.  Guaranteed you will watch more than once!

So what do you think people – Is Anderson’s imitation worthy of being compared to Carter Dunk?

Just in case you do not remember Carter’s dunk, please see below.

So It’s Been A While…

Hey Sports Bra Reports followers – so, it’s been a while since I last posted and I wanted to apologize for that… Things have been going a little crazy in my neck of the woods and I didn’t have too much time to post, but have no fear – The Sports Bra Reports is back in full effect.

Here are my thoughts on a few things have gone down in the sports world since my last post, which was a while ago people –

Feb 19, 2010: Tiger woods addressed the media, didn’t take any questions, read a prepared statement and asked for forgiveness from his family and supporters.  Was he sincere? I don’t think so, once again Tiger showed that he is extremely calculating when it comes to presenting his image and really didn’t explain much to the people around the world. Does he owe us an explanation? Some say yes… Others say no.  I believe he does – whether we like to admit or not, Tiger is a product and we are the consumers.  When something causes a product to go bad or something happens with it, don’t we deserve an explanation?

Spring training has begun for baseball and lots of baseball fans are getting excited about the upcoming season, except for Mets fans like me who have to deal with two of their star players coming off of injury (Beltran & Jose Reyes).

The NBA is gearing up for the playoffs which begins in April and it looks like Cleveland and Orlando are rolling in the East, while Lakers, Mavericks & Nuggets are contending to be the top representative in the west.

The Winter Olympics came and went out of Vancouver, Canada and the US won the most gold medals (37 total – USA! USA! USA!).  It provided us with many memorable moments, the U.S. vs. Canada – men’s hockey gold medal game which went into OT, Canadian women’s hockey team celebrating gold by lighting up a cigar and drinking some brews after winning gold medal, and many, many more moments.

Let’s just say… Many sporting events have occurred since our last post – but have no fear ladies and gents we are back… and we will be better than ever!

We're Back!
