UConn Huskies... 39-0 The Perfect Season

The 2008-2009 Connecticut Huskies achieved a rare feat.  A 39-0 perfect season and NCAA Division I Women’s Basketball Champion.  Perfect seasons aren’t anything new for the CT Huskies and coach Geno Aueriema, having achieved two perfect seasons in the past (’95 & ’01), but this one was different.  This year’s CT teams led by Tina Charles, Renee Montgomery and player of the year Maya Moore, made NCAA history by being the only team (men 0r women) to win every single game by double digits.

They culminated the perfect season by defeating the Louisville Cardinals in the Championship game 76-54.  Louisville’s All American Senior Forward Angel McCoughtry did her best in the Championship game by chipping in 24 points and even keeping the game close during the first half but the CT Huskies simply had to much star power.  The Huskies led by Tina Charles’ 24 points and 19 rebounds turned the gears on during the second half of the game and cruised to the victory.

I believe that CT Huskies aren’t being given enough credit.  Can you imagine the pressure and intensity that they played with every night to guarantee this perfect season by winning every single game by double digits? Coach Aueriema explains it best “I tried to explain to my players that it’s impossible to be perfect, but we can work every day to be as close as we possibly can.” Coach, you and the Lady Huskies should be proud, because in your case perfection has been achieved.
